Hell’s Gate National Park is a wild game reserve located near Lake Naivasha in the Rift Valley just outside of Nairobi. It sits on top of geothermal vents, hence the name Hell’s Gate. In collaboration with the Kenya Park Service the Kenya Power and Lighting Company operate several large geothermal power plants throughout the park and the Rift Valley. Kenya is oddly enough one of the leading countries for renewable energy. Kenya is primarily powered by geothermal, wind, and sun as opposed to fossil fuels due to the costly effort of importing them.
